Swedish Massage:

A variety of techniques specifically designed to relax muscles by applying pressure to them against deeper muscles and bones. Developed in the 1700’s by a Swedish doctor named Per Henrik Ling. Swedish massage stimulates the skin and nervous system and soothes the nerves themselves at the same time. It reduces stress, both emotional and physical. It can be used to relax or invigorate according to preference. It also has many specific medical uses.

Reiki

This is a Japanese word that comes from “rei” meaning “universal” and “ki” meaning the “life force” that permeates and surrounds every living thing. The term was coined in the late 19th century Dr Midao Usui to describe the new method of haling that he had devised. The practice of reiki is based on the belief that it has the power to heal and can be passed on by each of us once we are connected with the universal life force energy. This therapy can be used in conjunction with other techniques to very good effect

Hot Stone Massage

This is a speciality massage that uses smooth, heated stones. They are often basalt, a black volcanic rock that absorbs and retains heat well. The heat helps tight muscles to release. Invented in 1993 by Mary Hannigan, a native of Tucson, Arizona. The therapist uses traditional strokes of Swedish massage while holding a heated stone. As the stone cools the therapist replaces it with another. Heated stones may be left in specific points along your spine to improve the flow of energy in your body. Session time 90 minutes.

Thai Massage

Traditional Thai Massage is a fusion of eastern bodywork techniques ranging from Acupressure to Yoga. A blend of yoga, acupressure and reflexology, this massage (Nuard Bo-Rarn) is designed to relax and open the body's natural energy flow. Unlike the scooping and continuous strokes of western-style massage, Traditional Thai Massage uses point pressure, muscle stretching and compression done in a rhythmic movement of gentle rocking. The therapist helps stretch your body into a variety of yoga-like positions at the same time doing manual compression strokes on the muscles to further enhance the stretch and release tension. The aim is for the body to be in harmony and balance which will help prevent future stress occurring. Sessions usually last 90 minutes.

Hopi Ear Candling (Thermo Auricular Therapy)

This can be used to treat many conditions of the ear, nose and throat area. The candles work by vaporising their ingredients once lit, causing convectional air flow towards the first chamber of the ear. Once the candle is placed in the ear it forms a seal which enables wax and other impurities to be drawn out of the ear. There is evidence of ear candling from Siberia, Asia and the native communities of North and South America. Candles are used in medicinal ceremonies and initiations to clear negative energies from the head and aura. The candles can be used as a relaxing treatment to ease stress and address a number of problems relating to the ear, neck and face area. Used in conjunction with a relaxing facial massage this treatment is very effective.

Crystal Therapy

This is an energy based theory used in conjunction with colour healing and chakra healing. The effects are on many different levels, physical, emotional, mental and spiritual. Crystals vibrate at specific wavelength which match or complement the vibrations of the Chakras within the body. Chakras are viewed a “portals” into the body, also linking with the energy field or aura around the body. In common with acupuncture, reiki and many other therapies it is the passage of energy around and within the body that is seen to be the seat of good health and well being. Crystals are chosen (often by dowsing with a crystal pendulum) and placed on the Chakras according to the state of balance. The client remains fully clothed. The use of Reiki in conjunction with this therapy is very beneficial.
Session 60 minutes.
